The Climbing Phase

Assume they can reach it

Secure televisions and furniture to the wall, lock windows, use stair gates correctly and move climbable furniture away from windows. Keep hot drinks, medicines, cleaning products, cords and button batteries beyond reach and locked where appropriate.

Give climbing a safe yes

Supervised playground steps, floor cushions and learning to turn around and descend feet first can channel the drive to climb. Stay close; skill does not yet come with reliable judgment. A safe climbing opportunity does not remove the need to secure the rest of the room.
